GST registration karte waqt ek important decision hota hai — Composition Scheme leni chahiye ya Regular GST? Yeh decision aapke tax burden, compliance requirement, aur business growth pe directly impact karta hai.
Ek line mein — Composition Scheme simplicity ke liye hai, Regular GST growth aur B2B business ke liye.
Composition Scheme Kya Hoti Hai?
Composition Scheme ek simplified GST option hai jo small businesses ke liye banaya gaya hai. Isme aap apne total turnover ka ek fixed percentage GST ke roop mein bharte ho — chahe aapne customers se kitna bhi collect kiya ho. Returns bhi quarterly hote hain, monthly nahi.
Tax Rates (2026):
- Manufacturers: 1% of turnover
- Traders/retailers: 1% of turnover
- Restaurants (no alcohol): 5% of turnover
- Service providers: 6% of turnover
Side-by-Side Comparison
| Feature | Composition Scheme | Regular GST |
|---|---|---|
| Tax Rate | 1–6% of turnover | 5–28% on each transaction |
| Turnover Limit | ₹1.5 crore max | No limit |
| Returns | 1 quarterly (CMP-08) + 1 annual | GSTR-1 + GSTR-3B monthly/quarterly |
| Input Tax Credit (ITC) | Not allowed | Full ITC available |
| Inter-State Supply | Not allowed | Allowed |
| E-Commerce Selling | Not allowed (Amazon/Flipkart) | Fully allowed |
| B2B Invoicing | Cannot issue tax invoice | Full tax invoice with GST |
| Compliance | Very simple | Moderate — monthly filings |
| Export Business | Not allowed | Allowed with LUT/refund |
Composition Scheme Kab Choose Karein?
✅ Composition Scheme Best Hai Agar:
- Aapka business purely local / retail hai (ek hi state mein)
- Customers mostly end consumers hain (B2C business)
- Annual turnover ₹50 lakh – ₹1.5 crore ke range mein hai
- Compliance complexity kam rakhni hai
- CA ya accountant hire karna affordable nahi hai
- Restaurant, dhabha, ya local retail shop hai
Example: Local Grocery Shop, Noida
Annual turnover ₹80 lakh. Mostly local customers — B2C. Composition Scheme mein: tax = ₹80L × 1% = ₹80,000 total tax. Quarterly return file — simple. Regular GST mein: har item pe 5-18% GST, monthly returns, ITC tracking — zyada complex aur possibly higher tax if margins small hain.
Regular GST Kab Better Hai?
✅ Regular GST Better Hai Agar:
- Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho pe sell karte ho (mandatory)
- B2B business hai — corporate clients, government tenders
- Doosre states mein supply karte ho (inter-state)
- Export karte ho ya karna chahte ho
- High purchase cost hai — ITC se tax bachana chahte ho
- Turnover ₹1.5 crore cross karne wali hai
- Manufacturer ho aur raw material pe heavy purchases hain
Example: Moradabad Brass Exporter
Annual turnover ₹1.2 crore. Exports to USA and Germany. Composition Scheme — not eligible (exports not allowed). Regular GST mein: export zero-rated, full ITC refund on raw material purchases. Regular GST clearly better.

Composition Scheme ki Limitations — Dhyan Rakho
- ITC nahi milti — matlab aap jo GST purchases pe bharte ho (raw material, equipment), woh wapas nahi milta
- Inter-state supply banned — doosre state ke buyers ko sell nahi kar sakte
- E-commerce completely banned — Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Zomato — koi bhi nahi
- "Bill of Supply" issue hoti hai tax invoice nahi — B2B buyers ITC claim nahi kar sakte, isliye corporate buyers prefer nahi karte
- Agar turnover ₹1.5 crore cross ho gaya — automatically regular mein shift karna padega
Scheme Switch Karna — Kaise Aur Kab?
Ek baar Composition choose kar liya toh financial year ke beech mein switch nahi kar sakte. Switch sirf 1st April se hota hai (new financial year start).
Composition se Regular mein switch karna:
- GST portal pe Form GST REG-01 ya intimation through CMP-04
- Notice period: 15 days before switch date
- Composition period ke pending stock ka ITC claim kar sakte ho switching date pe
